Plum - tree (Prunus) – is a tree from the family of rose - tree and appeared as a result of the natural interbreeding between cherry – plum and blackthorn. The origin of plum is Caucasia, Northern Iran and Asia Minor. The pits of prunes were found in some old constructions during archaeological dig in Switzerland near Zurich. This fact shows that even in the past prunes were the source of energy for people. The crusades were the reason for expansion of this fruits. Although, Alexander Macedonian brought gold and jewels from his successful Western Campaigns, he also brought couple of plum – trees.
Prunes are made from fruits of very sweet dark colour sort of plum-trees with easy to remove fruit pit. Prunes without pits are sorted on two types according to the way in which the pits are removed: type A and type B.
Prunes contain ballast substances, vitamins from group B. They stimulate carbohydrate metabolism, remove feeling of anxiety, and raise stability of organism to stressful situations. Prunes can be consumed in combination with other dried fruits and nuts. Prunes normalise gastrointestinal tract and pressure. They are recommended for people who suffer from vascular dystonia and beriberi.
